Where your data lives

The short version

Your data is never used to train a model — ours or anyone else's. Every request your workspace sends through Protobox (tool calls, knowledge lookups, prompts) is proxied to the provider you configured; Protobox itself doesn't fine-tune on it, and none of the underlying model providers we integrate with are configured to train on it either.

You choose where your workspace's files are stored — United States or European Union — when you create the workspace. That choice is permanent: there's no way to move a workspace between regions after creation, because doing so would mean physically copying every file to a new bucket. If you need a different region, create a new workspace.

What the region setting controls

• Object storage (files you upload) — routed to a US or EU bucket based on your workspace's region. If you selected EU but Protobox hasn't provisioned an EU bucket for your plan/tier yet, uploads fall back to the US bucket and we log that fallback — your files are never silently lost, but they may not be EU-resident until the fallback is resolved. Talk to us if EU residency for storage is a hard requirement for your compliance review.
• Primary database and cache — single-region today (regardless of your workspace's selected region). This is the honest state of the system as of this writing, not a future promise.

Setting your region

Pick a region on the Create your workspace step during onboarding — it defaults to United States. Once set, it's shown read-only under Settings → Workspace → Your data, and via the CLI:
